Welcome to our new website!

Raising teenagers is like nailing jello to a tree.

This statement is laughable but true.  I say, teenagers are kids in a grownup body.  They're developing their identity. They can be moody and don't quite know how to act at times.  They can can be hard to control too because just like all of us they have their stubborn streaks.

I like teenagers.  Right now, I have three boys that are in this life stage(16, 14, 13) and soon enough, my only daughter (10) will enter the teenage years.  My husband and I homeschool them and don't want to change that.  They take pride in their independant learning.

The reason why I started this blog is because I regularly deal with teenagers that are not my own.  I'm a middle school substitute teacher.  I love it.  The teachers I fill in for are great.  I think they're some of the nicest people in the world.  I, too, am certified by my state to teach but I haven't found a job yet.  It's a big compliment to me when a teacher personally calls me at home to fill in.

This year, 2008-09, I'm substituting at a small school near my home.  (I can walk there.) and like last year, in a big nearby district that has five middle schools.  I have enjoyed going around to all of the five different schools in this past year.

I like the variety in going to different schools and classrooms.  I also want to make my presence known.  I want to be a familiar face to the students.  I also want to encourage them but at the same time have some serious classroom structure when I fill in for a teacher.

This blog is about my adventures subbing in middle schools!
